Tavis Campbell,
PhD, R.Psych


Dr. Tavis Campbell is Associate Professor of Clinical Psychology at the University of Calgary. His research interests involve identifying and understanding the behavioral factors involved in the etiology of illnesses such as hypertension, cancer and insomnia. Further, Dr. Campbell's program of research involves the evaluation of behavioral treatment for chronic illnesses and their symptoms including stress management, exercise and weight loss.

As a Clinical Psychologist, Dr. Campbell treats patients in his private practice, which is focused on issues including insomnia, depression, anxiety and coping with chronic illnesses.

Linda Carlson,
PhD, R.Psych

Dr. Carlson is the holder of the Enbridge Endowed Research Chair in Psychosocial Oncology, an Alberta Heritage Foundation for Medical Research Health Scholar award, and is Associate Professor in Psychosocial Oncology in the Department of Oncology, Faculty of Medicine at the University of Calgary. She also holds an Adjunct Associate Professor appointment in the Department of Psychology. She is Director of Research and works as a Clinical Psychologist at the Department of Psychosocial Resources at the Tom Baker Cancer Centre.

Dr. Carlson's current research interests are focused in the areas of computerized distress screening, psychoneuroimmunology, integrative oncology and complementary and alternative medicine, as well as providing and evaluating interventions for cancer patients.

Sheila Garland,
MSc



Sheila Garland has been investigating sleep and the role of psychosocial interventions in improving quality of life of individuals with cancer for 7 years. She is currently completing her PhD in Clinical Psychology at the Univerisity of Calgary under the supervision of Dr's Carlson and Campbell. She is a Doctoral fellow with the Psychosocial Oncology Research Training (PORT) Initiative. Sheila regularly gives presentations at the Tom Baker Cancer Centre and various cancer support organizations on ways to improve your sleep without the use of medication. She coordinates the research and clinical delivery of the I-CAN SLEEP program.

Mike Antle,
PhD, Psychology


Dr. Antle heads the chonobiology lab at the University of Calgary. His key interest is in studying the mammalian circadian system. The circadian clock controls easily measurable behavioral and physiological processes, such as sleep/activity rhythms. Dr. Antle has a particular interest in translating his research into improvements for individuals who have difficulty with shift work or international travel.

Charles Samuels,
MD, CCFP, DABSM


Dr. Samuels is the Medical Director of the Centre for Sleep and Human Performance in Calgary, Alberta. Dr. Samuels is board certified in Sleep Medicine with the American Board of Sleep Medicine. He has a clinical background in Rural and Urban Family Medicine.

Dr. Samuels is a clinical trial researcher with a special interest in the scientific study of the effect of drugs on psychological processes and behavioral activity and obesity. Dr. Samuels is also the lead investigator of research exploring the relationship of sleep to recovery and performance in elite athletes. This project is funded by “Own the Podium” a collaboration of all the major Canadian stakeholders in the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympic Games.
